Mission and Purpose

Severn School’s student-led historical society, seeks to promote and publish outstanding Severn School student historical research essays, and to broaden our community’s interest in, and intellectual attachment to, the discipline of history. In addition, Severn Historical Society will seek to deepen our community’s appreciation and understanding of the significant historical events which took place in this area.

We strive to assemble a concise and professional journal featuring six to nine historical essays written by Severn students called ‘The Sextant’. Our goal is to print and distribute this journal to students and faculty once per year in an effort to show off the talents of Severn Students. Severn’s Historical Society also submits one outstanding historical essay per quarter to ‘The Concord Review’, a prestigious publication based out of Massachusetts.
